As an Individual, Business or Organization I've made the following efforts to give back to the community, be mindful of the environment, reduce waste, and/or stimulate the local economy.

Examples of HILT's projects include:

➢ Acquisition (in 2006) and monitoring of HILT’s 185-acre Keopuka coastal conservation easement in South Kona.
➢ Assisting in placing and passing an initiative on the 2006 Hawai‘i County ballot which set aside 2% of the County’s property tax revenue for open space acquisition and stewardship.
➢ Partnering in the acquisition by the Hawai‘i Dept. of Land and Natural Resources of 1,336 acres of recovering and high-quality native forest on the Carlsmith property in Waiakea.
➢ Providing critical support that made protection possible of Wai‘aha beach on Ali‘i Drive in Kona.
➢ Participation in the Hawai‘i Land Trust Collaboration project led by Marc Smiley and funded by the Sydney Frank Foundation and HCF to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the statewide land trusts’ shared mission.
➢ Development of the Landowner Education Series, a community education program offered throughout the Island's communities.
➢ Collaboration with the Trust for Public Land to protect Ka Ohana O Honu'apo and 225 shoreline acres of Honu'apo Bay.
➢ HILT is presently involved in negotiating several easements in Volcano that will protect critical forest canopy.
➢ In Kurtistown, HILT is partnering with Malu ‘Aina Center for Non-Violent Education and Action to enlarge their farming operation to supply more food and sustainability training to members of the community.
➢ Along the Hamakua, HILT is working with The Nature Conservancy and landowners to protect 4,500 acres of mauka ranchland.
➢ In Waimea, HILT is negotiating possible acquisition of a 600+ acre preserve which will involve youth agriculture programs, forest restoration and sustainable ranching.
➢ Together with the University of Hawai'i Department of Urban and Regional Planning, HILT is developing a Land Conservation Plan, which will identify and prioritize culturally and/or environmentally sensitive lands for conservation.
➢ HILT is creating a formal partnership with the Three Mountain Alliance (TMA). TMA provides watershed protection and management to over one million acres across Mauna Loa, Kilauea, and Hualalai. HILT will seek TMA’s expertise to address stewardship challenges such as invasive weeds, fire and feral cattle within areas protected by HILT.
