There is no doubt that we are now living in a world where green efforts are being taken more seriously. With the effects of global warming being more apparent, initiatives have been made to help stop it, and Hawaii may just be able to help save the world. Okay, well maybe Hawaii can't save the world, but they're definitely doing their part.
The state of Hawaii and the U.S Department of Energy have signed off on a Memorandum Of Understanding. (read more

Hawaii is dependent upon
imported fossil fuels for more than 90 percent of its energy needs. Because of this Hawaii is subject to shortages and high prices. Hawaii doesn't always need to be dependent upon fossil fuels because of all the natural resources that are already available on the islands (wind, solar, geothermal).
The point of the Memorandum of Understanding is to build a partnership between the state of Hawaii and the Department of Energy that will result in a crucial transformation in the way renewable energy is used in the state. Once these projects prove to be successful Hawaii will be used as a global role model.
Hawaii may not be saving the world, but having the potential to be a
global role model may just be the next best thing.
