Ulupono Initiative Investing $15 Million In SolarCity Projects

Ulupono Initiative is investing up to $15 million during the next year to finance SolarCity solar projects throughout Hawaii. 

The projects are expected to increase the amount of solar energy being produced in Hawaii by 5 percent, according to a press release. 

Some of SolarCity’s projects include installing photovoltaic panels on Department of Transportation buildings and and the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, according to Amy Hennessey, director of communications for Ulupono Initiative. Other projects are to be announced. 

Ulupono Initiative is a local, for-profit investment organization focused on increasing renewable energy and locally-produced food in Hawaii, as well as reducing waste. It was founded by Pierre and Pam Omidyar. (Pierre Omidyar is CEO and publisher of Civil Beat.)
