February 23, 2009 - Captain Cook, Hawaii

Live music and local vendors gathered to honor the diversity and heritage of the avocado in Captain Cook on Saturday.

The third annual Hawaii Avocado Festival, held at the Amy BH Greenwell Ethno-botanical Garden, celebrated the love of the butter pears as well as organic, sustainable living on the Big Island.

Organizer Randyl Rupar and avocado expert Ken Love were also on hand to raise awareness about eating locally grown avocados, and explained why it happens to be so hard to share them with the rest of the country.
